Why book covers need to tell a story

I’ve been thinking a lot about how critical visuals are for selling books. A well-designed cover doesn’t just catch the eye; it should hint at the story inside. I recently revamped a cover for a mystery novel, and the difference in engagement was noticeable almost immediately. What are your experiences with covers that made you pick up a book?

I totally agree that visuals are key, especially for genres like mystery. When I redesigned my own cover, I used darker colors and intriguing symbols related to the plot, which really pulled readers in. Have you found any specific design tools that help with the revamp process?
