When mockups and reality collide

I had a client request a complete redesign last week, only to end up asking for the original layout with a different color scheme. It’s like they think changing the color will magically fix all their usability issues! Anyone else experience this kind of client logic?

It’s like asking a chef to fix a burnt meal by just changing the plate — i’ve learned to push back a bit when that happens; maybe a quick usability test could help them see the bigger picture. Ever tried that?

I totally get it! Sometimes clients think it’s all about the color, forgetting about the actual user experience. Have you tried showing them a before-and-after with usability feedback?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

That’s so true! It’s like they think the magic is just in the hue. Have you ever tried mockups with usability tweaks to show them the impact?

I had a similar situation recently when a client insisted on changing just the colors on a landing page. I suggested we run a quick A/B test with different designs to illustrate how a complete approach could boost conversions. It’s amazing what hard data can do to shift their mindset. Have you thought about presenting any user research to back up your perspective?
