Agree with @Guide: I keep 0–0 top-left in Figma for dev handoff, but when I want a ‘center origin’ feel I drop a centered layout grid and set constraints to Center so interactions line up without hacks. Small caveat: if I’m animating (AE or Framer), switching to a true center origin is faster, but I never mix modes in the same file because , export specs get messy.

For the kerning thread last week: I only switch to Illustrator’s “Optical” kerning for display headlines over 48 pt, otherwise stick to Metrics and spot‑adjust problem pairs like “Ta” and “VA”. Quick tip: throw an 8 px baseline grid in Figma while reviewing type; variable fonts can get worse with Optical, so double‑check exports.

For Illustrator→SVG data viz, I wrap the plot in a group and flip the system with transform=‘scale(1,-1) translate(0,-H)’ so devs get y‑up while I design as usual; labels live outside that group so they don’t render upside down. I also match the artboard and viewBox 1:1 to avoid remapping later (viewBox - SVG | MDN).

I spin up a ‘sandbox’ frame in Figma with export disabled and a 15‑minute timer for any ‘whimsical design request’; if something sticks, I copy just the components back into the real file. It keeps scope creep in check, but don’t let the sandbox become the source of truth.
