I test logo recall by flashing it for 3 seconds in a fake feed and, 20 minutes later, asking people to sketch it and name two colors — , it’s brutal but honest. I run the flash with a 5‑second test tool like https://usabilityhub.com/guides/5-second-test, and if time’s tight I also do a 16px grayscale favicon strip to see if it holds up — how are you handling custom illustration-heavy marks in that scenario?

Quick check I use: drop the mark in a 6x4 grid of real app icons and ask people to find it twice — first in full color, then in grayscale; if the grayscale pass is slower, the form isn’t carrying its weight. Love your flash approach, @rdavis98, but I also capture a simple ‘what category is this brand?’ to be sure the symbol cues the right space.

I run a 24‑hour Slack emoji recall; if teammates confuse it, I simplify — color loss can skew. https://www.nngroup.com/articles/memorability/.

Piggybacking on @matthew31, I run a ‘tab strip’ test: swap our favicon into a row of 10 live tabs and ask folks to find it after task switching; if it disappears at 16px, it probably needs a simpler silhouette. Small caveat: this favors high-contrast marks, so I pair it with a quick ‘describe it to a friend’ check.

My go-to is a quick “memory sketch” drill: show the mark once in a deck, chat for a minute, then ask three teammates to draw it in under 10 seconds. If the sketches all hit the same silhouette, we’re fine; if they invent inner lines, , I strip detail and bump contrast. @rdavis98 is right that color can distort recall, so I also run it in gray; $0 and about 10 minutes total.
